Tolerance: Christians need not apply
Let’s hear it for “diversity” and “tolerance.”
Mount Rushmore officials are being accused of stomping on the free speech rights of Michael Boardley, a Minnesota resident who wanted to pass out Gospel pamphlets at the national monument.
The first day he did it, back in August, officials allowed him to do so unhindered. When he returned the next day, he was informed he had to get a permit. Now, he has an attorney.
According to the Associated Press:
“Gerard Baker, Mount Rushmore superintendent, said Boardley has never applied for a permit.
“‘We have never denied a permit,’ Baker said. ‘All he has to do is get a hold of us, and we’ll give him a permit. We issue 70-plus permits a year, and I’m not sure what’s going on.’”
What’s going on is that when Mr. Boardley asked for a permit application, once at the monument and then again via telephone, park officials refused to give him one.
This is just the latest example of the sort of things that seem be occurring more frequently in this country, where government officials seem to have a different set of rules for Christians than they do for everyone else.
