Obama sat through racist sermon

Dear readers: See the next post for an important update.

As more and more of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s racist and anti-American diatribes have come to light over the past week, Barack Hussein Obama has tried to distance himself from the rantings of his close friend and mentor.

Obama has dared to say that in his 20 years of attending Trinity United Church of Christ, he never heard Wright utter any such statements as those that have been so embarrassing to the Obama campaign.

An Obama press release said, “The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity [United Church of Christ] or heard him utter in private conversation.”

It’s possible Obama may not have been present during some particular sermons, but the suggestion that he was somehow unaware of his pastor’s virulent opinions is a flat-out lie.

Newsmax reports that on July 22 last year, correspondent Jim Davis attended church with Obama while Wright preached a profanity-laced sermon about the “white arrogance” of the “United States of White America,” which had “young African-American men” “dying for nothing” in Iraq.

According to the report, having the opportunity to get up and leave upon hearing his country attacked from the pulpit, Obama instead sat in the pew nodding in agreement.

Contrary to his mock surprise at Wright’s statements, Obama planned at the start of his campaign for the possibility of having to distance himself from Wright’s statements but never had any intention of breaking off the relationship with his longtime pastor.

Before his televised campaign kickoff rally on Feb. 10, 2007, Obama disinvited Wright from giving the invocation. Says Newsmax:

According to Wright, Obama then told him, “’You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.’” Still, Obama and his family prayed privately with Wright just before the presidential announcement.

The fact that Obama has made it this far is testimony to the media’s clear political bias. Geraldine Ferraro was right. If Obama were white, he wouldn’t be where he is today — he would have been forced to resign long before now.

When Mitt Romney, a Mormon, ran for the GOP ticket, he was hounded by reporters demanding to know if he would be able to separate himself from the control of his church’s leaders. And he was roundly criticized by liberals incensed that he belonged to a church that formerly didn’t allow black clergy, a policy that was changed decades ago.

But now when we have a Democrat who attends a church that is radically racist and anti-American, and who claims his pastor as a close personal adviser, the mainstream media have been largely silent, leaving dissemination of the truth to bloggers, talk radio and smaller news outlets such as Newsmax. The New York Times only this last weekend got around to running a short story on the Wright controversy, buried deep inside the news section.

Obama needs to resign from the campaign and possibly from the Senate. He has for years knowingly associated with an anti-American racist, and he has lied about it. That alone shows he is unfit to be president. Wake up, America.

  1. That NewsMax story has been proven false: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/3/17/12847/0647/732/478293

Actually, it hasn’t. Obama’s campaign has put out a video and a press release claiming he was in Florida that day to give a speech at 1:30 p.m. Here is Newsmax’s response to the Obama campaign’s flanking maneuver:

Clarification: The Obama campaign has told members of the press that Senator Obama was not in church on the day cited, July 22, because he had a speech he gave in Miami at 1:30 PM. Our writer, Jim Davis, says he attended several services at Senator Obama’s church during the month of July, including July 22. The church holds services three times every Sunday at 7:30 and 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central time. While both the early morning and evening service allowed Sen. Obama to attend the service and still give a speech in Miami, Mr. Davis stands by his story that during one of the services he attended during the month of July, Senator Obama was present and sat through the sermon given by Rev. Wright as described in the story. Mr. Davis said Secret Service were also present in the church during Senator Obama’s attendance. Mr. Davis’ story was first published on Newsmax on August 9, 2007. Shortly before publication, Mr. Davis contacted the press office of Sen. Obama several times for comment about the Senator’s attendance and Rev. Wright’s comments during his sermon. The Senator’s office declined to comment.

It’s pretty simple and typical for a politician to hop on a taxpayer-funded private jet and be in two different states on one day. Personally, I wouldn’t believe any videos coming from Obama or the Daily Kos these days unless I see Obama holding up a newspaper, a clock and a map. … While liberals apparently don’t believe a man can fly, there is nothing about the video or speech schedule that “proves” the Newsmax story wrong. And seeing how Jim Davis’ original story was published back in August, I’m inclined to think that the Obama campaign, once again, is simply covering up Obama’s questionable associations and support for an anti-American racist.
